FORE! Transit - Friends of Riders foundation works in conjunction with the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority (PARTA) to help the most vulnerable in our community by supporting non-profit agencies whose mission aligns with that of FORE! Transit.
FORE! Transit is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation established by PARTA to:

-
Assist people in Portage County who have difficulty affording public transportation
-
Provide an avenue to work collaboratively with area agencies that serve low-income individuals who need public transportation
-
Give businesses and individuals an opportunity to make tax deductible charitable contributions, which help people in need of public transportation
Since 2006, FORE! Transit has worked to meet the transportation needs of those who can least afford it. Our foundation works in conjunction with PARTA to help the most vulnerable in our community by supporting other non-profit agencies whose mission aligns with FORE! Transit.
To contribute to FORE! Transit, send a check to 2000 Summit Rd., Kent, OH 44240, c/o FORE! Transit. All proceeds are used to support unmet transportation needs within Portage County by assisting other local non-profit agencies whose mission aligns with FORE! Transit - Friends of Riders.
The Need
Many local agencies assist their clients by purchasing PARTA bus tickets, passes, and trip cards. These agencies are limited in what they can afford to purchase. The number of individuals who need this help out paces the number of those who are able to receive it.
Our Partnership
In coordination with FORE! Transit, PARTA provides grants to non-profit agencies that aid low-income individuals to ensure Portage County residents in need have access to public transportation.
How it works
Grant recipients receive financial awards that they may draw down to pay for half the cost of full price fares. Award recipients then pay the other half of the cost. This allows individuals who do not qualify for traditional reduced fare programs to have access to discounted fares for public transportation.
Who receives assistance
FORE! Transit and PARTA have provided grants to many Portage County non-profits to assist their clients including:

Catholic Charities | The Center of Hope | Coleman Professional Services | Freedom House/White House | Housing & Emergency Support Services (HESS) | Miller Community House | Passages | Portage Area Recovery Center | Portage County Job & Family Services | Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority (PMHA) |
Safer Futures | Townhall II
